Job Description & RequirementsL&D/PP/MB Unit Overview – Oregon\nLicense Requirement\n•\tOregon RN License Required\n•\tOR 90-Day Emergency License Eligible\n\nUnit Composition\n•\tL&D Beds: 5 (LDRPs)\n•\tPostpartum Beds: 3 (in addition to 5 LDRPs)\n•\tOR Suites: 1 within unit (staffed by Main OR; unit RNs do not scrub/circulate)\n•\tTriage Beds: 1\n•\tAnnual Deliveries: Approx. 340 (30–35 per month)\n\nStaffing & Ratios\n•\tAWHONN Guidelines: Followed\n•\tMinimum RN Staffing: 2 RNs per shift (frequently 3); all nurses expected to work independently across L&D, postpartum, routine and intermediate nursery\n•\tSupport Staff: CNA II/unit secretary\n•\tCharge Nurse: Yes\n•\tHouse Supervisor: Yes\n\nCertifications Required\n•\tBLS\n•\tNRP\n\nPatient Population\n•\tCommon Diagnoses: Low to moderate risk OB, laboring patients, postpartum mothers, well and intermediate nursery newborns\n•\tHigh-Risk Patients: Stabilized and transferred when necessary\n•\tOB/Neonatologist: On call 24/7 (OBs typically present with labor\n\n\nRequired Skills\n•\tStrong, independent skills across Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Routine Nursery, and Intermediate Nursery\n•\tAbility to titrate Pitocin (induction/augmentation), Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate\n•\tFlexibility with fluctuating census and assignments\n\n\nMonitoring & Equipment\n•\tEFM System: Centricity Perinatal\n•\tFetal Monitoring: Central\n•\tTelemetry: Maternal cardiac monitoring read by ICU\n•\tVentilation/RT Support: Bubble CPAP, vent stabilization for transfer only\n•\tMonitor Techs: No — RNs read fetal strips\n\n\nSchedule Details\n•\tShift Length: 12 hours (7a–7p or 7p–7a)\n•\tScheduling: Block scheduling; trades allowed\n•\tWeekend Requirement: Every other weekend\n•\tHoliday Requirement: 1 major, 1 minor (if applicable)\n•\tCall/Standby: To be discussed\n•\tFloating: Expected – provide “helping hands” to other units\n\n
