Violence Prevention Program Student Worker

Position Summary: The Student Workers for the Violence Prevention Program under the Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) grant will assist with various initiatives designed to prevent and address domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking on campus. This individual will support educational campaigns, peer advocacy, event coordination, research efforts and outreach activities. This position offers an opportunity to engage in impactful work promoting safety, healthy relationships, and support for survivors within the campus community. Work flexible hours of 10-15 hours per week. Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of workshops, events, and awareness campaigns on sexual violence and healthy relationships.
  • Help prepare, organize, and distribute educational materials such as brochures, posters, and online content.
  • Facilitate and track peer-led focus groups or workshops on topics like consent, bystander intervention, and healthy relationships.
  • Provide one-on-one advocacy support for students who have been impacted by violence, helping them connect with campus resources.
  • Conduct research on best practices in violence prevention and compile data on student needs and program effectiveness.
  • Organize logistics for campus events, such as Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaigns, speaker events, and informational sessions.
  • Attend meetings, taking detailed notes, and tracking attendance for student or staff committees, working groups, and task forces focused on violence prevention.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to engage with diverse student populations.
  • Organizational skills, including event planning and logistics coordination.
  • Empathy, sensitivity, and a non-judgmental approach when supporting peers in distress.
  • Previous involvement in social justice or activism, particularly related to violence prevention, is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team.
  • Comfort with conducting research, data entry, and reporting.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience or interest in peer education or mentoring.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies.
  • Knowledge of legal frameworks, such as Title IX or campus sexual violence policies, is a plus.
