Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) is seeking a detail-oriented, experienced professional to help ensure the quality, safety, and compliance of our public sanitary sewer projects. As a Public Works Construction Inspector II, you'll play a vital role in monitoring construction activities, verifying adherence to plans and specifications, and collaborating with contractors, engineers, and project managers to deliver projects that serve our community for years to come. The Public Works Construction Inspector II leads and participates in reviewing approved major complex technical public works construction plans and conducts on-site observations of construction projects to ensure that work is done in compliance with specifications. This is distinguished from the Public Works Construction Inspector I due to its responsibility of leading and training staff and inspecting major complex construction activity.
Essential Functions:
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of experience inspecting construction projects such as sewers, water lines, roadways, bridges, or flood control channels INCLUDING two years of experience inspecting public works construction projects.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
OR:
Two years of experience with Pima County as a Public Works Construction Inspector I, or a similar level position which is responsible for inspecting public works construction projects.

Selection Procedure: Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record. Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at time of application or prior to completion of an initial or promotional probation period. Failure to obtain/maintain the required certification/licensures shall be grounds for termination.

Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. All positions may carry the risk of exposure to infectious diseases and asbestos found in construction, wastewater, and sewage products, therefore special medical screening prior to and during employment may be necessary to assure employee health and safety. Some positions require working at, near, or in busy automotive and construction equipment traffic patterns. Any required safety training and equipment will be provided. Employees in this classification may encounter potentially harmful wildlife (reptiles, such as snakes, lizards, etc.), insects, and plants.
Physical/Sensory Requirements: Some employees within this classification may be required to routinely lift equipment or other items (such as utility access covers) weighing up to 100 pounds. Employees must be able to: operate assigned vehicles in all weather conditions and on differing road surfaces, work in and traverse rough terrain on foot, recognize industry-standard colors used for marking underground utility services/electrical wiring/equipment and properly maintain and wear required protective clothing and equipment. Other physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position.
