Description

The University of Washington (UW), Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology is recruiting a full-time Neonatologist on the Faculty Scientist track at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or full Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT), commensurate with experience and qualifications. Faculty on this track generally spend the majority of time in research; however, clinical care and teaching are also an expectation.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a neonatologist looking to push their research career to the next level. The University of Washington Division of Neonatology fosters a vibrant research environment focused on improving neonatal outcomes through innovation and collaboration. Key research areas include neonatal neuroscience, neonatal education and simulation-based training (NEST), translational, clinical, and quality improvement research, global neonatal medicine (ALIGN), neonatal ethics and parental decision-making, neonatal pulmonary physiology, microbial interactions and nutrition and development (MIND), and congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Researchers leverage cutting-edge facilities and interdisciplinary partnerships, including collaborations with Seattle Childrens Hospital Research Institute. Supported by robust funding, its work translates evidence-based discoveries into improved clinical practices, shaping the future of neonatal medicine.

Clinical sites of care include the NICUs at the University of Washington and Seattle Childrens Hospital in Seattle, Washington.

As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty-one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees, and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty, and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Childrens, UW Medicine, and FHCRC), and are part of the Childrens University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan.

The anticipated start date is Spring 2025; a specific start date is negotiable.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range: $18,618 - $27,927 per month ($223,416 - $335,124 annually), Associate Professor range: $21,793 - $32,689 per month ($261,516 - $392,268 annually), Professor range: $24,947 - $37,420 per month ($299,364 - $449,040 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Childrens University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the Childrens University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through the Childrens University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).

Qualifications

Must have MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent).

Must be Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington.

Must be currently licensed as a physician or eligible for licensure as a physician in Washington state.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
