Packaging Engineer Job Description 2-5 years

PURPOSE

Edward Mac Brands, LLC is seeking a Packaging Engineer / Senior Packaging Engineer to work at our corporate headquarters located in Pittsburgh, PA. The candidate will assume responsibilities for packaging research, development, design, testing, qualification and documentation of safe, cost-effective packaging structures, systems, and suppliers.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • To develop, specify, and commercialize cost effective packaging designs in a timely fashion.
  • Perform trials to ensure compliance to approved standards.
  • Confer with supervisor and/or cross-functional partners such as food technologists, engineers, plant operators, sensory experts, packaging, marketing, and sales in order to drive the product development process.
  • Using packaging, chemistry, microbiology, material science, engineering, and other sciences to study the principles underlying the processing, preservation and deterioration of foods and product package interactions.
  • Review graphic proofs for compliance with graphics and structural compliance requirements.
  • Keep technically informed through suppliers and technical literature.
  • To minimize the cost of packaging components via design optimization and qualification of alternate suppliers.
  • To improve the functional performance of packaging designs with respect to supply chain handling and consumer usage requirements.
  • To develop and maintain accurate and complete specifications for all packaging components
  • To provide technical support at all points in the supply chain to resolve packaging design/material related issues.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES

 

  • Masters or BS in Packaging, Engineering, or related field.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in package development.
  • Computer literacy in DraftSight/AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, and MS Office products.
  • Understanding of packaging materials, converting processes, manufacturing capabilities & equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management.
  • Self-starter, capable of managing a portfolio of project assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Analytical and logical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills.
