Position Overview :

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated part-time Music Teacher to join our Catholic school community. The ideal candidate will inspire and educate students from Kindergarten to 8th grade, fostering a love for classical music while providing engaging instruction in music theory, history, and appreciation.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum tailored to K-8 students, incorporating elements of classical music, music theory, and performance skills.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students can explore and appreciate the beauty of classical music.
  • Teach fundamental music concepts, including notation, rhythm, melody, harmony, and form, through interactive and hands-on activities.
  • Introduce students to a variety of classical composers, styles, and genres, exposing them to diverse musical experiences.
  • Organize and conduct regular music classes, rehearsals, and performances, including school concerts, recitals, and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate music into interdisciplinary learning experiences and special events.
  • Foster students' musical talents and confidence through individualized instruction, ensemble playing, and group projects.
  • Provide constructive feedback and assessment to students, tracking their progress and growth in musical skills and understanding.
  • Cultivate a positive relationship with students, parents, and colleagues, communicating effectively and professionally about student achievements and concerns.

Qualifications:

**Job Description: Part-Time Cantor and Choir Director**

Position Overview:

We are seeking a talented and experienced part-time Cantor and Choir Director to lead music ministry for our Sunday liturgies, funerals, weddings, and special events. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding and appreciation for sacred music, including Gregorian chant and polyphony, and will inspire our parish community through uplifting and prayerful musical worship. Bilingual required.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary cantor for Sunday Masses and other liturgical celebrations, leading congregational singing and solo vocal performances.
  • Select appropriate hymns, chants, and sacred music repertoire for each liturgical season and occasion, in collaboration with the pastor.
  • Establish, develop, and prepare the volunteer Children’s choir and the Hispanic Choir for the 9:30a.m., 11:30a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sunday Mass as well as Holy Days.
  • Prepare and conduct rehearsals for the parish choir, children's choir, and instrumentalists, ensuring musical excellence and spiritual enrichment.
  • Provide vocal coaching and training to choir members, encouraging their participation and growth in liturgical music ministry.
  • Lead and direct the congregation in sung responses, acclamations, and psalms, fostering active participation and engagement in the liturgy.
  • Maintain a repertoire library of sacred music resources, including hymnals, Mass settings, and choral anthems, keeping them organized and accessible for rehearsals and performances.
  • Serve as a liaison between the music ministry and parish community, communicating effectively about upcoming liturgical music selections and opportunities for involvement.
  • Uphold the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church in music selection and performance, ensuring that all musical expressions enhance the worship experience and support the liturgical rites.
  • Attend weekly parish staff meetings.
  • Select music for Sunday liturgies.
  • Available for ministry at weddings and funerals.
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc. as assigned.

  • Supervises the Hispanic and Children’s Choir volunteers during events and practices.
  • Supervision provided by the Pastor.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • This position works in a typical Church environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving tight deadlines during the liturgical seasons. This is not a work from home position.
  • Must be able to climb stairs.
  • Must be able to carry at least 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to set up and operate sound equipment.
  • Evening and weekend work will be required

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, Catholic rites, and liturgies
  • Familiarity and experience with computers, computer programs and office equipment.
  • Experience working with amateur and professional musicians.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to compose correspondence and announcements.
  • Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work effectively.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish required.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience as a cantor, choir director, or music minister in a Catholic parish setting.

  • Competency in piano accompaniment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with a pastoral approach to music ministry.
