Job Description

The molding Engineer is leading and coordinating the process development activity to support new product development projects from the innovation phase to the first commercial batches. In this role the molding engineer will influence product and process design & ensure manufacturability of products. The target being to develop superior product design efficient manufacturing process for highest quality and lowest cost. Key responsibilities include leading, planning, implementing and coordinating new molding development activities (mold design/build and molding processes) following the GIE process and associated gates review; reviewing product drawings ensuring part designs can be injection molded economically at the right level of quality – Design for Mold-ability & Scale-ability (DFMS); specifying equipment, molds and materials for new molding processes, or existing process changes; utilizing CAD, mold flow and CFD techniques, state-of-the art productivity tools along with mold cavity process monitoring instrumentation; interfacing with personnel from R&D, Plant, Quality, Manufacturing, GIE groups, and outside mold maker/molding vendors; coordinating and communicating assigned projects with the appropriate personnel and departments; writing capital expenditure requests for molds as needed; preparing and managing the budget for molding projects; developing and implementing molding processes for pilot production and defining scale-up programs; defining with finance the cost of good model for new product development and the associated CAPEX; supervising technicians as required; supporting qualification and validation activities for new products, processes, changes and transfers; maintaining up-to-date familiarity with developments through attendance at professional meetings, literature and consultations; complying with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations; complying with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles; and other duties as assigned. Required skills include proficiency in injection molding processes and equipment, CAD software, Six Sigma green belt or statistical tool knowledge, understanding of plastic materials and composites, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, project management abilities, excellent communication skills, drive for results, customer focus, influencing others, process effectiveness, and innovation. Minimum education is a B.S. Degree in an engineering field with 7 years of pertinent molding-based experience or equivalent experience. M.S. Degree preferred. Experience with molding analysis software, Solid Works, Visio, Microsoft Office, MS Outlook, and MS Project preferred. Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification preferred. The company prioritizes on-site collaboration with a minimum of 4 days in-office per week for most roles. Employment may be contingent on COVID-19 vaccination proof.
