Electrical System Operator Lateral Program:

System Operator I, 0-3 years of experience $46.42/day and $48.40/night

System Operator II, 3-5 years of experience $49.90/day and $52.03/night

System Operator Journeyman Lineman, 3 years of experience & valid IBEW Journeyman Lineman Certification $61.25/day and night

DMEA is seeking to fill 1 vacancy in our Electrical System Operator department. This position may be filled by any position listed above. The following outlines the basic qualifications, essential functions, and requirements necessary. All qualified candidates are welcome to apply and the position will be awarded to the most qualified candidate based on their experience.

JOB SUMMARY:

The System Operator position is responsible for providing dispatching services for DMEA personnel and contracted outside co-ops. This position is a safety-sensitive position requiring technical knowledge and skill to perform a variety of services.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certificate of completion from DMEA's System Operator Apprenticeship Program or a minimum of three (3) years combined experience and /or education related to transmission and distribution electrical systems is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
  • Must have basic math skills.
  • Bilingual language skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • A valid Colorado driver's license is required.
  • Must reside within a 30-minute response time of DMEA's headquarters.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Delta-Montrose Electric Association reserves the right to change or modify the duties and essential functions of this position at any time. In an efficient and professional manner, and in accordance with the DMEA/IBEW Labor Agreement and DMEA Accident Prevention Manual:

  1. Communicates system conditions, problems, or concerns with other System Operators, DMEA personnel, and necessary outside entities.
  2. Monitors and reviews reports, log telemetering, SCADA, two-way radios, and telephones ensuring continual awareness of power flows, unusual conditions, and system operations to provide electric service in a safe in a safe and efficient manner.
  3. Write basic switching orders and perform all written switch orders, including routine, on-the-fly, and outage restoration orders. Coordinate switching schedules with field personnel and other entities as necessary.
  4. Dispatches necessary field personnel to inspect, troubleshoot, and correct problems, which includes, relaying information to field personnel to aid field personnel in troubleshooting problems. Performs necessary follow-up to ensure problems are handled appropriately.
  5. Operates system equipment that is monitored remotely using SCADA and other computerized devices.
  6. Thorough knowledge and comprehension of operations technology (OT). Oversee the safe and efficient operation of non-monitored system equipment utilized by field personnel to operate various electrical substations and line equipment involved in the transmission and distribution of electric energy to the customer.
  7. Maintains a daily log of events to ensure job orders are resolved and documented. Oversee the database used to track outages, underground locate requests, job orders issued, power quality concerns, etc.
  8. Prepare and distribute daily and/or weekly operation reports as requested.
  9. Provide customer services by answering company telephone calls for DMEA and other shared-service entities and monitoring security cameras and intercoms.
  10. Appropriately assists, guides, and instructs System Operator Apprentices and new System Operators.
  11. Dispatching duties require a thorough knowledge of DMEA and outside co-op OT systems and an improved comprehension of their physical layout.
  12. Perform dispatching duties through telephone and two-way radios for communication and using computer systems including the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA), the Customer Information System (CIS/iVUE), and NISC's Outage management Systems (OMS), and Automated meter Reading (AMR) software tools.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Twelve (12) hour shift work required (rotating shifts over 24 hours a day, 365 days a year).
  • Calm and controlled responses are required. Stress levels are very high during major outages where long hours on duty are required, and customer demands are intense.
  • Requires the use of a keyboard/computer; and occasional standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Requires finger dexterity for computer use, hearing to distinguish speech, speaking to provide detailed instructions accurately and quickly, and to visually discern between color to relay information.
  • Continually process new and old information to anticipate problems that may arise.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Regular, predictable attendance as scheduled is required. Approximately 95% of employee's time is spent indoors in an office environment. Approximately 25% of employee's time is spent talking on the telephone to customers or employees.

Occasional travel by company vehicle and /or commercial means will be required.

DMEA dispatch positions perform a safety sensitive function; Apprentice Dispatchers are subject to drug and alcohol testing as stated in the DMEA Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy and Procedures Manual and the "All Employee Drug and Alcohol Policy."
