Job Title: Preneed Sales Counselor

You will leverage fully supported programs and lead referrals through various channels, including mail, seminars, aftercare programs, and community engagements. Job Summary:
The Preneed Sales Counselor will assist families in pre-planning funerals through life insurance policies and other funding methods offered by our company. This individual will also help families purchase memorial property and merchandise, all while providing prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable service to our client families.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective communication and collaboration with families, co-workers, and management.
  • Manage sales and services within the funeral home, with occasional meetings at client family homes.
  • Develop and follow up on leads from self-generated sources and reliable company-approved referrals.
  • Organize and conduct public seminars that align with the delivery of aftercare services, converting generated leads into preneed sales.
  • Assist in the development of aftercare and seminar resources for the funeral home and the community.
  • Meet or exceed minimum monthly sales expectations set by the sales manager.
  • Be available during specified office hours to assist walk-in clients and immediate needs while focusing on selling pre-need products and services.
  • Stay informed about the benefits of pre-arrangement and effectively communicate this information to client families.
  • Utilize provided tools to generate sales, procure leads, and successfully close sales.
  • Build positive relationships with funeral home and cemetery managers, local churches, nursing homes, hospitals, and hospice providers.
  • Maintain necessary licensure and certifications to meet local and state legal requirements, including being licensed with the insurance company that underwrites our policies.
  • Possess knowledge of funeral rites, ceremonies, and customs across various religions, confirming details with clergy during service pre-arrangements.
  • Be knowledgeable about general price lists, casket price lists, and merchandise price lists for the funeral home and cemetery, answering all pricing inquiries in compliance with FTC regulations.
  • Remain up to date on company policies, learning, and procedures as assigned.
  • Perform other business-related duties as assigned.

Educational, Licensure, and Skill Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic office skills, including computer proficiency.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to a diverse range of individuals.
  • Strong attention to detail with effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, organizing and prioritizing workload.
  • Capability to work under time constraints while adhering to established schedules and deadlines.
  • Must be a licensed insurance agent in the state and licensed with the insurance company used by Jersey Memorial Group.
  • Licensed Funeral Director in states that require such licensure.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and meet driving performance standards as determined by management. MVRs may be reviewed annually for compliance, and any convictions or at-fault accidents should be reported to management immediately.
